THE FOOL'S JOURNEY

Sometimes I am tempted to let go of it all,
to build a hut somewhere at the edge of the world,
far enough from people and their expectations,
beyond their hopes, their fears, their complications.
Sometimes I only wish I could get up and walk,
Follow the road until it goes no more,
until I reach that distant place
where I can finally call home.
To unwrite my past, one memory at a time,
until nothing remains but a blank page.
To erase my name, deed by deed,
before the first mark of sin was ever carved upon it.
To unspeak my voice, breath by breath,
before the first scream ever escaped my lungs.
To unravel my mind, dream by dream,
before awakening into this reality.
To unlearn the things I was never meant to forget,
to unwrap myself from all that binds my spirit,
and simply enjoy the gift.
For life is as simple as one plus one;
it is we who make it complicated,
because we are too intelligent
to comprehend its simplicity.
